Browns Should Not Feel Good: A Tie Is Not A Win

After finishing last season with a record of 0-16, it’s not surprising to me that many would consider the Cleveland Browns 21-21 tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, to be a win. However, I disagree.

I see it as a blown opportunity.

It’s true, the Steelers have a very good team, but they played horribly on Sunday. Maybe as bad as it gets. Ben Roethlisberger had three picks in the first half; he also had back-to-back fumbles in the fourth quarter, which allowed the Browns to tie the game.

Going into overtime, I said to myself, the Browns will find a way to mess this up. After a missed 42-yard field goal by “clutch” Chris Boswell, the Browns had an opportunity to prove me wrong and steal the game with only nine seconds left in overtime; but ultimately the Browns showed us all that they still aren’t ready to get the monkey off of their back, after Zane Gonzalez’s 43-yard field goal was blocked by T.J. Watt.

ESPN analysts and many Browns fans are calling this outcome, a win for the Browns. How so? Because they didn’t lose. Grow up! This isn’t a win; it’s a blown opportunity and might as well be a loss. In fact with the way the Steelers played, it’s more of a win for them than for the Browns.

I’m starting to feel as though the Browns are looked at as a high school team. Hearing comments like “oh they will get there” or “they tried really hard, that’s all that matters.” I say screw that. These guys are paid a lot of money to go out and produce results, It’s embarrassing to me, and should be embarrassing to Browns fans that people consider a tie to be a win. Especially with how badly the Steelers played.

I mean sure the Browns have a lot of new faces on their team, but at the end of the day these guys are professionals and should be able to capitalize on opportunities. Especially when the opposing team gives you the opportunities that the Steelers did.

They say that even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while; well the Browns are still looking.

  1. First of all I would like to say superb blog! I had a quick question that I’d like
to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your
mind before writing. I have had difficulty clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts out there.
I truly do take pleasure in writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints?
    Appreciate it! http://www.allpetsclub.com/Calendar/EventDetails/09-12-09/Human_Rights_Day.aspx?Returnurl=http://www.mbet88vn.com
