Schaub and White Exchange Jabs Via Social Media

By Mike Tellier

I think we can all agree that UFC President Dana White has never been afraid to speak his mind, regardless of who he’s addressing.

So, when I saw that White and former UFC Heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub were beefing on Instagram I wasn’t surprised. I was, however, a bit surprised at what White had said about Schaub.

During a recent podcast, Schaub addressed kickboxers transitioning to MMA and the high expectations that have been put on them.

“I think everybody is all high and mighty on these guys who come from kickboxing, boxing backgrounds,” Schaub said on his “Below the Belt” podcast earlier this week. “When they come over to the UFC, they expect them to be elite strikers. The distance, the combos, the head movement, the number of variables, it’s a completely different game. So to me that never translates.”

The statements made by Schaub did not sit well with White, and rather than sweep the comments under the rug White decided to throw a quick shot back at Schaub.

“Such a (expletive) tool!!!!,” White wrote on Instagram. “What the (expletive) does this idiot know about the sport or the business??? @stylebender for u to be listening to one word from this MORON is a waste of ur time. Guy went 6-5 in the UFC!!! The only thing he could teach u is how to get KO’d. Tune idiots like this OUT.”

Schaub would keep the argument going by later tweeting back to his former boss.

“@danawhite whoooooooa look who got a break from folding Ronda’s laundry to jump on instagram,” Schaub wrote. “Bravo sir. He’s right @stylebender what do I know listen to the bald fat guy who has never been in a fight in his life. Do that.”

In the past, I have tended to lean toward the ideas and thoughts of White. I admire the fact that he has rebuilt the UFC into the largest most successful professional fighting organization on the planet. I also respect that he keeps real. However, in this particular situation, I feel it would have been best to just keeps it real.

It’s not that I necessarily agree with the statement(s) that Schaub made regarding the so-called “standards” that are put on these kickboxers; it’s the fact that White attacked Schaub; not with actual facts but with childish insults regarding Schaub’s UFC record.

Regardless of how much money White has or how famous he has become, for him to belittle someone who went 6-5 in the toughest fighting organization on the planet is stupid, and it makes him look like an idiot. Especially considering the fact that White has never fought any fighter inside the Octagon; as Schaub pointed out in his return message to white.

Doubtful that this feud will have any negative backlash what so ever toward the UFC President, however, I feel he could gain from actually listening to the opinions of others; especially other people who have gotten their hands dirty inside the cage. Again, it’s doubtful that that will ever happen, but if he did we could possibly avoid situations like having CM Punk on the pay-per-view card of arguably the most stacked card of the year.
