Can we all step back from the 24 hour Trump hysteria that consumes our media outlets daily; And focus on the big picture surrounding the Trump/Putin Summit.
The bias hostility towards Trump meeting with Putin is not a Democrat vs Republican issue, but instead a neocon vs realist issue. Those who want to see peace with other dictators- regardless of the regime- and those who want conflict.
The United States has always been uneasy with Russia, but the cold war ended in the 90’s and as President Obama continually said: “Russia is not a threat.” But rational discourse has been thrown out the window since we learned Russia interfered in the 2016 election. It might be factual or it might be political, but I can’t help but be skeptical of a year and a half long investigation conducted by a US intelligence agency- with a history of lying- indicting 12 Russia’s days before the summit. Mind you these Russians will never step foot in a US courtroom, but instead, we have to take Mueller at his word.
With an intelligence agency with a history of provoking unnecessary wars, promoting tension towards Russia should not come as a shock. So let’s now step back and look at the big picture.
We learned on Friday, July 13th that 12 Russians allegedly interfered in the 2016 election via “hacking” the DNC and leaking Hillary Clinton’s emails to the public. Side note, transparency is a great thing and exposing the DNC should not be frowned upon especially by so-called “journalists.” Anyway. Yes, the 12 Russians who allegedly leaked (not hacked) DNC emails should be taken seriously; But let’s not pretend the US has never interfered in other countries elections, including Russia. We have made bigger impacts on foreign elections through rallying and cyber attacks that comparably make the Wikileaks’ emails look like small fries.
Leaked emails from Jon Podesta’s server did not impact the election, nor is there any evidence that Trump’s team colluded with the Kremlin. The media loves to say the Kremlin persuaded the election to benefit Trump but where’s the evidence proving the emails earned Trump the win? And the conspiracy stating that Trump’s Team worked hand in hand with Russia has no evidence to support it.
I can’t deny the fact that the Putin’s regime has done some awful things, but let’s stop pretending we haven’t/ don’t support and fund worse regimes. We currently support and found Saudi Arabia who is currently committing mass genocide in Yemen -while using starvation as a war tactic. We have a long history of supporting corrupt regimes that are more oppressive than Russia, but our media outlets and D.C. think tanks have always had hostility towards Putin’s regime.
Again Russia is not this grave threat. However, Neocons are resurrecting the Cold War and spewing out dangerous propaganda to purposely weaken our relationship with a government who has nuclear weapons similar to ours. The Trump/Putin summit is going to hurt Trump politically, but good for him to take that hit. The United States should engage in peaceful discussion to resolve conflict, not avoid it.
Like Ron Paul says, our greatest threats do not come from the radical left or the radical right, they come from the radical center. Those who promote war and deem anyone a traitor who opposes or even questions their judgment. The radical center posses a sick ideology of American Exceptionalism that implies The United States is spotless without sin and we must stop the evil dictators. From Pentagon-backed media outlets to D.C. think tanks; The radical center is good at hiding America’s corruption and creating hostility towards foreign leaders.
A meeting between 2 officials who control regimes that posses 90 percent of the world nuclear arsenal is not going to cause damage; But a country driven by the opinions of vile think tanks and pentagon backed media outlets, that continually cause tension between the two, will.
