Trust Me, I’m Like You.

Trust Me, I’m Like You.

I  think we can all agree that politicians are manipulative. They tell voters what they want to hear in order to get elected. Every election cycle we hear promises on issues that never get resolved, and yet the public is always persuaded by these lying, conniving, grandstanders.

After all the perpetual lies, we still can’t grasp the fact that politicians are deceivers who choose an occupation that’s a dog eat dog fight to the top. Why does the public look to politicians to bring prosperity to their lives? All the Americans people should be promised is liberty and equality. A fair and just society that provides every individual the right to their own success, or failure. The government is to provide liberty and justice for all, not promise false prosperity that they cannot deliver.

Often times we look to political figures for virtue. We want our votes to go to officials who relate to the common man. We love politicians that understand our needs and those running know this and try to use it to their advantage.

Anyone with any common sense can see that politics clearly exploit this tactic. This “look at me I relate to the working class and can help you because I’m like you” speal that bureaucrats use is so played out. If its Beto O’Rock posting a selfie picture of him at the dentist, Kamla Harris saying she smoked weed while listening to 2Pac, or AOC bragging about how she’s from the Bronx, this tactic shouldn’t be the reason for votes. AOC is known for perpetually posturing to her base, and her base eats it up.

Does it really matter if AOC is from the Bronx and comes from a working-class family? No, because this doesn’t make her an expert on policies.

She’s relatable and worked her way to the top without special interests funding her campaign. Great, that’s admirable, but that doesn’t make her an expert on economics or foreign policy, and this has been proven with her preposterous green new deal proposal.

My mailman comes from a working-class family and is more than nice to me, does this constitute him as a good politician?

I get it, the American voter is tired of the conventional politician who continues to take special interest money and is unrelatable because they’re more concerned with the corporations that found them rather than serving the people. But, when we support a member in Washington we must approve of their knowledge on particular matters and see if they are actually implementing solutions.

AOC shines in the political spotlight, but when it comes to actually implement successful policy shes a total flop.

In sum, politicians are not heroes, nor should they be looked at as heroes. They are in a cut through, dog eat dog occupation. They need to say whatever they can to get your vote and gain credibility from the working class. Yes, we want our politicians to stand on good character, but more importantly, we want our politicians to provide good answers to our problems and we need to evaluate them on their resolutions and how they will execute them.
